THE CHUBBUCK TECHNIQUE In the bestseller book ‘The Power of the Actor’ (english version, french version) by the acting teacher and coach Ivana Chubbuck, she reveals her cutting-edge technique which has launched some of the most successful acting careers in Hollywood. ‘The Power of the Actor’ guides you to dynamic and effective results. For many of today’s major talents, the Chubbuck Technique is the leading edge of acting for the twenty-first century. Ivana Chubbuck has developed a curriculum that takes the theories of acting masters, such as Stanislavski, Meisner, and Hagen, to the next level by utilizing inner pain and emotions, not as an end in itself, but rather as a way to drive and win a goal.
The Chubbuck Technique is a 12-step process based on psychology and behavioral science. Ivana has a profound insight of the human psyche and by using The Chubbuck Technique, you learn how to replicate the character from your own personal needs and life experiences. This creates a character that is authentic, layered and present in the moment. The Chubbuck Technique is a way to realize and embody a character so that the character becomes you – and you become the character.

The Chubbuck's Workshop is a life changing experience for the actors on stage, as well as the auditors in the room. The 2 day event, includes several transformative and interactive exercises, which everyone in the audience will actively participate in. As an example, the room will engage in exercises, which enable each individual to, easily and deeply, open up one’s emotional ressources, activating your ability to get to your true emotions, in a simple, profound and effective way. Everyone will also learn and experience how to create chemistry, through the “Chemistry Exercise”, individually and as a group, how to play a killer, how to create a character that takes the victim out of being a victim, how to organically feel the effects of drugs and alcohol, how to feel organic fear, how to deal with dying from the perspective of the dying and the loved one who is experiencing the death, and so much more interactive exercises that include everyone, participants and auditors alike.
Each scene in the workshop will be carefully selected so that the actors can face key aspects of what it takes to deliver great and lasting performances. Each and every one in the audience will face the same challenges, figuring them out alongside the actors on stage. Asking yourself questions such as “what would I use?” “what choice would I make here?”.
The 2 day event is an interactive, eye opening experience and through watching, listening and participating, it will become more clear on how to use The 12 step, Chubbuck'sTechnique. It will provide you with effective and practical tools and will facilitate your ability to apply them successfully, with effective results in the real world.
“The guesswork is gone. Finally, a book ‘The Power of the Actor’ that provides the nuts and bolts to acting, that shows me how to always be present, how to always have something going on behind my eyes and ultimately, that provides a concrete path for me to really discover and live a role.”
Ivana Chubbuck is a master who empowers through her teachings. The will to win is realised in every moment of each scene, thus creating a multi-dimensional, always interesting character. She not only teaches us how to act fearlessly, but to live fearlessly. Ivana is the only person I can be completely honest with, without the fear of feeling like a complete c*nt, and to ultimately use this personal information to truly expose the darkness of any character.”
I finally went to a class in Los Angeles with this wonderful teacher, Ivana Chubbuck. Ivana taught me how to take my emotions and take everything that has happened in my life, and use it to make me an effective actor. The stakes have to be high – so it was really an interesting place for me to stand on my feet and fall on my face many times.” Interview, Ivana Chubbuck Studios, 2012
“I believe Ivana’s technique could be boiled down to, ‘take the pain in your life and find the most effective way to accomplish a goal with it.’ The most interesting aspect of the Chubbuck Technique is that it helps you to understand humanity. What drives someone to do what they do, good or bad. That even someone who seems outwardly evil to the outside world, has a righteous reason to be who they are, and do what they do. It’s not painful, actually the process of each movie I’ve done has been cathartic.”
“Ivana Chubbuck is the premiere acting coach of the twenty-first century. Her astute knowledge of the human condition, coupled with her ability to translate that insight to her students, is remarkable. Ivana’s innovative methods of teaching both complements and rival those of the great teachers of the past. Her philosophy transcends what we once knew about the art, and forces actors through their own catharsis to discover authentic ways of bringing the complexity of life to the screen and stage. Under Ivana’s tutelage, the course of my career and depth of my work have changed dramatically.” Discours d'Halle Berry aux Oscars 2005
“Emily [Deschanel, Boreanaz’s co-star] and I met every weekend with Ivana Chubbuck, a renowned acting coach, for seven or eight years. We rewrote and rehearsed—we cultivated our characters that way and excited the writers. They [initially] wanted a serious, X-Files-ish show, and we wanted a character show. We won because we kept that drive and people responded. We’re proud of that.”

A travers l’expression scénique….
